Why Corrective Skin Formulates Differently: 30+ Years of Aesthetician-Driven Skincare

Hi friends! Kelly here. Founder and CEO of Corrective Skin!

Recently, I had the opportunity to sit down with Peter Anthony on the Utah Business Spotlight Podcast to talk about something I have spent most of my career thinking about, and it inspired me to sit down and write this blog too.

The main theme of our conversation revolved around something I am not only passionate about, but have been asked for almost 30 years non-stop.

So, what actually makes skincare work?

Listen to the podcast here

One thing I kept coming back to during my conversation with Peter is that great skincare isn’t simply about putting a lot of strong ingredients into a bottle.

It’s about choosing the right ingredients, the right formulations, and making sure they are delivered the right way. After more than 30 years of working with real clients and real skin, we’ve learned just how much those details matter.

Something I am always so proud to reflect on when explaining Corrective Skin, is how my mom originally developed the brand as an aesthetician and I eventually carried that work forward. It is the integral part of why we have always approached skincare from the treatment room (not from whatever ingredient happens to be trending online.)

Below, I’ve outlined in just a few paragraphs for each reason, of what really makes skincare work.

Why Skincare Should Have a Purpose

One thing we spoke about, is when you’re standing in front of a shelf full of skincare products, it can be easy to focus on the ingredient list. But an ingredient being in a formula doesn’t automatically mean it’s going to perform the way you want it to.

We need to think about the entire formulation.

How stable is the ingredient? How is it delivered to the skin? What other ingredients is it paired with? How is the product packaged? And, perhaps most importantly, what does the skin actually need?

That’s the philosophy behind Corrective Skin.

Why Antioxidants Are In So Many Corrective Skin Formulas

Your skin is constantly dealing with environmental stressors.

UV exposure, pollution, heat, dry air, and other environmental factors can contribute to the formation of free radicals. Over time, oxidative stress can contribute to collagen breakdown, inflammation, uneven skin tone, and visible signs of aging.

That’s why antioxidants are such an important part of our formulations.

You’ll find antioxidant ingredients throughout the Corrective Skin line, including ingredients such as Vitamin C, green tea, licorice root, Vitamin E, and Spin Trap® technology.

We don’t add antioxidants simply because they’re popular. We use them because protecting healthy skin is just as important as correcting visible concerns.

EGF: The “Youth Protein”

Our EGF Healing Cream is probably the best example of our formulation philosophy.

EGF stands for Epidermal Growth Factor, and is a type of signaling protein involved in skin renewal and repair. As we age, the skin’s natural production of certain growth factors decreases.

That’s why we call EGF our “Youth Protein.”

Our EGF formula also combines growth factors with other supportive ingredients, including antioxidants, peptides, and nourishing ingredients designed to support the skin barrier.

The goal is not to create a complicated routine with dozens of products. It’s to create a formula where the ingredients work together.

Delivery Matters Just as Much as the Ingredient

One of the things we discussed on the podcast was something consumers don’t always think about: how an ingredient gets to the skin matters.

For example, our EGF is formulated using a liposomal delivery system.

Liposomes are tiny lipid-based structures that can encapsulate certain active ingredients and help deliver them through the skin’s outer layers.

It’s one of those formulation details that isn’t necessarily obvious when you’re looking at a bottle, but it matters to us.

The same goes for our packaging.

Our airless packaging is designed to minimize the formula’s exposure to air and reduce contamination from repeatedly dipping your fingers into a traditional jar.

In other words, we’re thinking about the formula from the moment it’s made to the moment you dispense the very last bit.

Why We Formulate for the Desert

Corrective Skin was born in Utah, and our environment has always influenced the way we think about skin.

Utah’s dry climate, intense sun, temperature fluctuations, indoor heating, and air conditioning can all create additional challenges for the skin.

That doesn’t mean Corrective Skin only works in the desert.

Quite the opposite.

We believe that if you formulate for a particularly demanding environment, you create skincare that can perform beautifully anywhere.

But our starting point has always been understanding what real people experience in our own treatment rooms.

Environment Matters

The same skin can behave completely differently depending on humidity, temperature, sun exposure, and daily habits. That’s why we don’t believe skincare should be one-size-fits-all.

Three Generations, One Philosophy

Corrective Skin began with my mom, an esthetician who wanted better skincare to use with her clients.

I grew up around skincare, treatment rooms, ingredients, and conversations about what actually worked, not just what looked good on a shelf.

Today, I’m so proud to continue that work as the next generation of Corrective Skin.

That history is a huge part of why we remain so focused on esthetician-driven formulation. We aren’t trying to create the biggest skincare collection. We’re trying to create products we can confidently put in a client’s hands and say:

“Here’s why I chose these ingredients, here’s how to use them, and here’s what I want them to do for your skin.”

That’s what Corrective Skin has been about for more than 30 years.

And it’s still what we’re about today.
