Your Fall Skin Routine Starts With a Strong Foundation

By Kelly Brown, Master Aesthetician and CEO of Corrective Skin
One of the things I’ve learned in my years as an aesthetician is that seasonal skin care becomes much easier when you already have a core routine that works.
When fall arrives, you have a familiar foundation to build on. You know what keeps your skin comfortable, which products you tolerate, and where you might need a little extra support.
For many people, that extra support is moisture. You might notice your skin feeling tighter after cleansing, a little less comfortable by afternoon, or that your makeup is settling into dry areas.
If you aren’t experiencing those changes, wonderful. Keep doing what’s working. Your skin doesn’t need an entirely new routine just because the calendar has changed.
Keep your core routine consistent
I think of a core routine as your daily preventative maintenance. At Corrective Skin, that means appropriate cleansing, vitamin C and antioxidants, daily sunscreen, thoughtful exfoliation, and moisturizers with supportive formulations like ours, with antioxidants and growth factors. We pay attention to what a moisturizer brings to your routine beyond moisture alone. Growth factors are an intentional part of our philosophy, alongside hydration and barrier support.
Those steps give your routine a purpose. Then, when the weather changes, you can make specific adjustments instead of guessing your way through a cabinet full of products.
If you’re still building that foundation, start with our core routine blog.
Formulated in the high desert for life through the seasons
Our products grew out of hands-on work by aestheticians treating clients in a high-desert clinic. We saw how skin responded to dry air, changing temperatures, and the transition from one season to the next. That experience shaped how we formulate.
We pay attention to the entire formula: the active ingredients, how they are delivered, and the moisturizing and supportive ingredients around them. We want you to be able to keep your core products through the seasons and adjust how you use them as your skin's needs change.
Liposomal delivery systems are part of that approach for key ingredients such as our vitamin C and epidermal growth factor. Liposomes are tiny lipid-based carriers used to encapsulate selected ingredients. The delivery system matters, along with the concentration and the rest of the formula.
Keep protecting your skin every morning
At Corrective Skin, we believe in using L-ascorbic acid, the active form of vitamin C, all year long. Vitamin C isn't just a summer product to us. Our products were formulated with high-elevation, high-desert clients in mind, and we considered how to support their skin through every season. Our Vitamin C Repair Serum is the vitamin C step in that approach.
I also understand wanting to switch things up as your skin's needs change. Hyaluronic acid is a wonderful hydrating ingredient for fall and winter, and it can be useful all year. It helps attract and hold water in the skin's outer layers.
If you prefer to keep your routine simple and dryness has become your main concern, you might choose a hyaluronic acid serum for your usual serum step during fall and winter. That's a way to shift your focus toward hydration without adding another step. Just understand that you're choosing a different benefit: hyaluronic acid provides hydration, while vitamin C provides antioxidant support and visible brightening benefits.
For someone spending time outdoors in fall, I would especially encourage keeping vitamin C alongside daily sunscreen and adding hydration where needed. But vitamin C can still be useful when you're spending less time outside; the decision to change serums should reflect your skin's needs and your goals.
Personally, I like a more proactive approach to skin longevity. I use vitamin C all year and add hyaluronic acid in fall and winter. That gives me the extra hydration I want while keeping my antioxidant step consistent.
I also recommend a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher every day. My preference is a mineral formula you enjoy wearing enough to use consistently. Shorter days and cooler temperatures don’t remove the need for sun protection.
In the morning after exfoliation and or cleansing, apply your chosen serum or serums as directed, follow with a supportive moisturizer, a day time eye cream or serum and finish with sunscreen. If you want to try something new this fall, I would lean toward a hydrating serum or a moisturizer that gives your skin a little more comfort.
Introduce one new product at a time so you can tell how your skin responds.
Give moisture a little more attention
In our desert climate, I see how quickly a change in weather can show up on someone’s skin. Lower humidity and indoor heating can contribute to dryness, and a lighter moisturizer may no longer feel sufficient.
Hydration and moisture work together. Hydrating ingredients help attract water to the skin’s outer layers, while moisturizing ingredients help soften the skin and reduce water loss. That’s why a hydrating serum followed by a cream can be such a useful combination.
For customers who have been using our Epidermal Growth Factor cream only at night, fall is often when I recommend adding it in the morning, too. Apply it before sunscreen to bring growth factor care and an additional layer of moisture into your morning routine.
Depending on what your skin needs, you might also add a gentle moisturizing mask or choose a richer eye cream if that area feels dry. These are small adjustments you can make without rebuilding your whole routine.
Give mature skin and your makeup a seasonal check
This attention to moisture can be especially helpful for mature skin. As we get older, skin often becomes drier during a season change into fall since with aging and perimenopausal or postmenopausal skin is thinning, although age alone doesn't tell us what someone's skin needs.
If you're over 40 and wear foundation, one of my practical recommendations is to consider a fluid or liquid formula when your skin feels dry. I often find that a comfortable, moisturizing fluid foundation sits more smoothly on mature skin, while powder can emphasize dry patches or settle into fine lines.
That doesn't mean every woman over 40 has dry skin. Some still experience oiliness, and others find that their skin fluctuates, especially through the summer. If a powder foundation works beautifully for you in warmer weather but starts looking dry or sitting differently in fall, it may be time to try a fluid formula.
You can still use a little powder where you need it, such as the T-zone. The goal is to choose your makeup for the skin you have today, with a moisturizing skin care routine underneath and sunscreen before foundation.
Where growth factors fit
At Corrective Skin, we believe in growth factors as a meaningful part of a core routine. Moisture matters, but the choice of a growth factor formula is intentional.
Epidermal growth factor, or EGF, is a signaling protein made from a chain of amino acids, also called a polypeptide. Naturally occurring EGF participates in communication involved in skin cell growth and renewal. Topical EGF formulations have been studied for improvements in the appearance of wrinkles and skin texture, although results depend on the formula and the research is still developing.
That science is why growth factors interest me as an aesthetician, especially when we talk about skin longevity. I look for ways to support smoother, more supple-looking skin over time, alongside the daily habits that protect it.
Our epidermal growth factor cream pairs liposomal EGF with a moisturizing formula that includes glycerin, shea butter, and supportive ingredients such as niacinamide. Hydration and moisture are built into how we deliver the growth factor ingredient. It's a deliberate combination, and an important part of our approach to mature skin.
Keep exfoliation thoughtful
At night, I recommend cleansing, followed by a chemical exfoliant such as glycolic acid. In the evenings your skin tolerates it, and then your growth factor cream should always go on top.
Glycolic acid helps loosen the bonds between dead surface cells, supporting smoother-looking skin without relying on a scrub. But if you become dry or sensitive, reduce the frequency. Flaking doesn’t automatically mean you need more exfoliation.
Our Glycolic Brightening Solution is the exfoliating treatment step in our system. How often you use it should reflect your skin’s response, the product directions, and any other active products in your routine.
If your skin is stinging, irritated, or unusually tight, give it a break from exfoliation and focus on gentle cleansing and moisturizing.
Use skin cycling to make room for recovery
I do believe there’s a place for skin cycling, particularly when someone uses exfoliating acids or a retinoid and needs more recovery time between treatments.
I sometimes compare it to working out: you have days when you challenge yourself and days when you recover. With skin care, that might mean an exfoliation night followed by one or more nights focused on moisture. If a retinoid is already part of your routine, it may fit on a separate evening.
The benefit is giving your skin time to tolerate the routine comfortably. You don’t need to keep switching products to make your skin “work harder.”
In fall, I’m especially interested in whether the balance still suits your skin. Keep the daily foundation consistent, and adjust your treatment nights when you need to.
Make room for a little extra hydration
I love a gentle hydrating spritzer as a simple addition to a fall routine. You can use one before a hydrating serum, or enjoy a light mist during the day if the formula agrees with your skin. Some are also designed to refresh makeup.
If you like the idea of “skin flooding,” keep it simple: lightly damp skin, a hydrating serum, and moisturizer afterward. You don’t need several layers of different products.
Follow individual product directions, especially with exfoliating acids, retinoids, or vitamin C formulas that call for dry skin. And remember that a mist doesn’t replace moisturizer or sunscreen.
Consider professional treatments with a plan
Fall and winter can be convenient seasons to discuss professional peels because many of us have fewer outdoor plans and can make more room for recovery.
As an aesthetician, I would use this time to talk through your goals, your skin’s condition, and whether a peel is appropriate. More intensive treatments, including medium-depth or deeper TCA peels, deserve an assessment by a qualified medical professional.
The season alone doesn’t make a peel suitable. Sun avoidance, aftercare, and the provider’s instructions still matter, even when it’s cold outside. If your skin is already dry or irritated, address that before pursuing a stronger treatment.
Start with one product if you already love your routine
If you like what you're using but are curious about Corrective Skin, you don't have to replace everything. I always recommend our epidermal growth factor cream as a place to start because it brings growth factor care into a supportive, hydrating, moisturizing formula.
You can begin by using it as your evening cream. If your skin would benefit from more moisture, you can also use it in the morning before sunscreen.
In our experience, our products fit well into routines that include other brands. What matters is the combination of ingredients and how your skin responds. Introduce one product at a time, and pay particular attention to how often you use exfoliating acids or retinoids.
I want you to have a routine that works for you. Sometimes that means our complete core system; sometimes it means adding one thoughtfully chosen product to the routine you already enjoy.
Support your skin now and keep listening
My goal with fall skin care is to stay ahead of dryness while keeping the daily routine manageable. Continue your antioxidants and sun protection, make room for more moisture when needed, and let your skin guide how often you exfoliate.
Caring for your barrier now can help you maintain comfort as winter gets colder and drier. Those same consistent habits remain valuable when spring and summer return.
Our Corrective Skin core system was created to take some of the confusion out of caring for mature skin. It brings cleansing, exfoliation, vitamin C, and our growth factor cream into one routine; you add your daily sunscreen and adjust the moisture to suit your needs.
You don’t need to change everything for fall. Start with what works, pay attention, and give your skin the support it’s asking for.
